Reasons for Studying this Course

In the modern climate its essential for a software developer to succeed in the IT industry to have a basic degree in computing or computer science.

The reason I chose to do a BSc in Computing is mainly to gain the necessary qualifications required to get my a foot in a career as a software developer, I already have over 6 years expierience in my field and I am confident enough to work within this field with my present skills, however unfortunatly skills and expierience are not enough for modern employers - they tend to prefer candidates with degrees and with the additional skills and expierience.

I felt that doing a degree in computing would be a sufficient starting point to my career. However I am increasingly realising that a degree wont guarantee that I will have a job in three years time, especially due to the fluctuations in demand in IT and the problems of our instable economy. However to double my chances and get a slight edge over the competition I may face in 3 years time I am doing additional work-based courses.

I am currently doing a microsoft course designed specifically for IT Specialists and software developers - The MCAD (Microsoft Application Developer) Qualifacation is a work-based course that can show employers your abilities with Microsoft Products.

With this alongside my degree can help me stand a better chance of being selected in an interview for a junior software development role than I would with just a 2:1 in BsC Computing.
